Reflections of a Runner Abroad

Scotland, what is this sorcery you call a “nettle”? I keep running through patches of them and now I am mildly uncomfortable.

Also, I think I am one of the only people in existence to actually obtain a suntan in Scotland.

So I thought it would be a good idea to have some of that magical instant coffee voodoo, thinking that perhaps the caffeine, as I’m particularly sensitive to it, would help reduce my urge to indulge my usual lovely siesta. Also, I need to be focused to absorb as much of this formal logic as I can, as my exam is tomorrow.

Not knowing how much was sufficient for a cup, I dumped in three heaping tablespoons, since I am a child and think more is better. Only after I drank this potion did I notice the label of “extra strength.”

I feel as though I could release a jet stream at any moment and blast off into the sky like a human rocket ship. Send help immediately.

Person: Hey, when are your exams?
Me: Never.
Photographic evidence of the permanent expression my face is stuck in. I will have been out of class for four weeks by the time I finish my last exam. I am grumpy.

bodypanic asked: I've really enjoyed following along with your journey so far since I stumbled upon your blog in the autumn. Thanks for giving the people on this site a treasured look into your life at university. I hope that you'll keep blogging throughout your 4 years! I also rather enjoy how your love for Tolkien shines through in your posts. Not to mention this makes me excited for my own adventure through the British Isles this coming fall!

What a lovely thing to say, thank you so much! Such kindness is humbling, since I originally began this blog mostly for my family to keep up on my adventures. I never could have imagined that others beyond them would enjoy it. Thank you also for continuing to read throughout the year!

I’ll try my best to keep this blog regularly maintained throughout my four years here at St. Andrews. Though posts may not be as frequent about my day to day, since first year is more full of new experiences, I hope to embark on many more exciting trips over the course of my study. So, hopefully many more exciting journeys will appear! Oh yes, where would I be without my beloved Tolkien? It makes me smile that someone picked up on such a little detail about my posts. I like to think that Bilbo Baggins is my spirit animal: a homebody at heart, but always with the slightest inclination to do something daring. That has really been the inspiration behind not only this blog, but my decision to study at St. Andrews as well.

How wonderful! Where do you hail from? Which university are you studying at this fall? I’m glad my blog has been a source of excitement for you! The UK truly is a magical place, I absolutely love it here. I wish you the best of luck on your own journey! Again, thank you for this lovely feedback, it brings a smile to my face knowing that others enjoy my attempt of sharing my experiences with them. Have a great day!
